WALL CLADDING INSTALLATION

The most efficient way to install NeXclad small-module, mechanically anchored terracotta tiles is by securing them to a structural sheathing board. Traditionally, these structural wall boards are installed over a stud wall system with interior insulation (referred to as Traditional Wall Construction – Structural Sheathing Over Studs with Interior Insulation).

To enhance thermal efficiency, modern wall/building construction often utilizes Structural Insulated Sheathing (SIS) boards, which provide the building design with continuous exterior insulation. NeXclad small-format terracotta tiles can be installed over both traditional and SIS-based wall systems, delivering exceptional durability, a sleek flush aesthetic, and a virtually unlimited range of colors.

Ludowici offers comprehensive technical support, including CAD files and REVIT models, for these two primary wall construction types:

1. Stud Walls with Structural Insulated Sheathing (SIS) Boards – Designed for continuous exterior insulation.

2. Stud Walls with Structural Sheathing – Traditional construction with interior insulation placed between the wall studs.

Continuous Rigid Insulation Wall

Stud Walls with Structural Insulated Sheathing (SIS) Boards

This system incorporates a continuous layer of rigid insulation applied to the building’s exterior, using a structural insulated sheathing (SIS) board. By minimizing thermal bridging, this method ensures greater energy efficiency while providing a secure substrate for NeXclad installation.

NeXclad Terra Cotta Integration:
• Direct installation over SIS boards with mechanical anchors into the structural facer board adhered to continuous rigid insulation, positioned outside the building’s waterproofing membrane and Ludowici’s drainage mat.
• Mechanical fasteners securely attach NeXclad tiles to the structural substrate without requiring additional mounting systems.
• CAD/REVIT models and PDF details below provide installation specifications.

Ideal for modern wood or steel-framed construction, this lightweight system simplifies installation while allowing for greater insulation and moisture control. With NeXclad’s precision engineering, framed wall installations achieve the look of classic terracotta with the efficiency of contemporary construction methods.

Conventional Wall

Stud Walls with Structural Sheathing

This conventional system consists of wood or steel stud framing with batt insulation placed between the studs. A solid, nailable/screwable sheathing layer is applied over the framing, serving as a secure base for exterior cladding. Unlike SIS-based systems, this approach does not include continuous exterior insulation.

NeXclad Terra Cotta Integration:
• Installed directly over a solid, nailable/screwable sheathing layer, positioned outside the building’s waterproofing membrane and Ludowici’s drainage mat.
• Mechanical fasteners securely attach NeXclad tiles to the structural substrate without requiring additional mounting systems.
• CAD/REVIT models and PDF details below provide installation specifications.
